Softball Recap: Walker Valley Mustangs vs. Cleveland Blue Raiders

After a string of seven wins, Walker Valley's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell just short of the Cleveland Blue Raiders by a score of 3-2. Walker Valley was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Cleveland apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played two weeks ago.

Ryann Presswood put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over ten innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). Presswood has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive pitching appearances. Presswood was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with.

In other batting news, Morgan Rice made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 4-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Madison Thomas was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Even though they lost, Walker Valley didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with 13 strikeouts. That's the most strikeouts they've managed all season.

Walker Valley's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 25-6-1. As for Cleveland, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-13 record this season.
