Softball Game Preview: Wayne Trace Raiders vs. Wauseon Indians

The Wayne Trace Raiders will square off against the Wauseon Indians at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wayne Trace has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Wayne Trace will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Elida on Monday. The Raiders walked away with a 15-12 victory over the Bulldogs. Considering the Raiders' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Raegan McGarvey made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and six unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Wayne Trace got a massive performance out of Brooke Tigner, who went 2-for-5 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave Tigner a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Zartman, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

Wayne Trace hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elida struck out nine times.

Meanwhile, Wauseon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 19-2 to Bryan.

The win got Wayne Trace back to even at 10-10. As for Wauseon, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
