Baseball Recap: Gillespie Miners vs. Hillsboro Hiltoppers
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Gillespie can now relate to. They fell just short of the Hillsboro Hiltoppers by a score of 2-0 on Monday. The shutout was out of character for the Miners seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in April.
Brody Shaw spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Gillespie saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dawson Lancaster, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
This is the second loss in a row for Gillespie and nudges their season record down to 15-10. As for Hillsboro, their win ended a 15-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-18.
As of now, neither Gillespie nor the Hiltoppers have any future games scheduled.
