League recap: Bird overpowering for Murrah in past week

6A Region 4's top pitcher this week was Murrah's Zach Bird. He won one game and struck out 25 batters.

First place in the league belongs to Northwest Rankin, which has compiled a 28-5 overall record to go with its 8-1 league record. Madison Central is in second place, 1.5 games behind with a 6-2 record in league play.

The Mustangs' pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing zero hits and five walks to lead the league in both categories. On the season, Murrah has allowed just 64 hits, while striking out 79 batters. Bird leads Murrah with 65 strikeouts in 37 innings pitched.
