Basketball Game Preview: Gilbert Tigers vs. Campo Verde Coyotes

Gilbert is on a seven-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Campo Verde is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Gilbert Tigers will welcome the Campo Verde Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Gilbert is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 79-31 victory over Desert Ridge. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Jaguars are ranked 146th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gilbert can attribute much of their success to Tylaiah Wily, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten assists, and Aspen McClees, who went 12 of 19 on her way to 30 points and four blocks. McClees' evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Contessa Ivy, who posted seven points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Gilbert smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 15 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Campo Verde against Mountain Pointe on Monday as the team secured a 62-30 win. The Coyotes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 27 points or more this season.

Gilbert is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points per game. As for Campo Verde, their victory bumped their record up to 12-3.

Everything came up roses for Gilbert against Campo Verde in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 65-36 win. Will Gilbert repeat their success, or does Campo Verde have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
