Basketball Game Preview: Sheldon Irish vs. Thurston Colts

The Sheldon Irish will head out to square off against the Thurston Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Sheldon beat Crater 56-51.

Meanwhile, Thurston put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past West Salem, posting a 69-41 win. Given the Colts' advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Titans are ranked 68th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Thurston pushed their record up to 8-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points per game. As for Sheldon, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.

Things could have been worse for Sheldon, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 49-31 loss to Thurston in their previous matchup back in January of 2022. Can Sheldon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
