Volleyball Recap: North Pemiscot Comes Up Short

After flying high against Hayti on Tuesday, North Pemiscot came back down to earth. The Mustangs fell just short of the Holcomb Hornets by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. While the Mustangs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Hornets 25-14 in the first set.

North Pemiscot wouldn't go down easily and took Holcomb into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 14-25, 25-19, 25-19, 23-25, 15-13.

When it comes to explaining why North Pemiscot lost, don't look at Cheyanne Sawyer. Despite the final result, she had 26 digs. With that strong performance, Sawyer is now averaging an impressive 10.3 digs per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Faries, who had 12 digs.

North Pemiscot's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 15-7-2. As for Holcomb, their win bumped their record up to 7-4-1.

Coming up, North Pemiscot will welcome Southland at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Holcomb has already played their next match (against Caruthersville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
