Baseball Recap: Wittenberg-Birnamwood's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Wittenberg-Birnamwood waltzed into their contest on Saturday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They were the clear victors by a 17-6 margin over the Auburndale Apaches. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-2 on Saturday.

Zandyr Barke was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Milo Salvesen and Chris Sippl did most of the damage at the plate: Salvesen went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI, while Sippl went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Sippl a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Dickman, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Auburndale, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-3.

Looking ahead, Wittenberg-Birnamwood will square off against Bonduel at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Chargers 2.1, the Bears 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Auburndale, they will host Edgar at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
