Baseball Game Preview: South Whidbey Falcons vs. King's Knights

For the first time this season, South Whidbey will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will venture away from home to square off against the King's Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. South Whidbey has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with six straight losses, while King's will come in with four straight wins.

Things were looking good for South Whidbey after they put the first points on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 13-4 to Vashon Island. One positive for the Falcons, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, King's posted their closest victory since April 24, 2024 on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Seattle Prep 6-4.

King's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Luke Echelbarger, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Echelbarger also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

King's pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for South Whidbey, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

South Whidbey couldn't quite get it done against King's in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can South Whidbey avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
