Basketball Recap: Friday's Win Is Espanola Valley's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

Espanola Valley won the last time they faced Moriarty and things went their way on Friday too. The Espanola Valley Sundevils walked away with a 60-53 victory over the Moriarty Pintos. Given the Sundevils' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the Pintos are ranked 97th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why Moriarty lost, don't look at Jordan Brown. Despite the final result, he went 6 of 11 on his way to 21 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. That was a full 39.6% of Moriarty's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Albert Esparza was another key player, putting up 11 points and five boards.

Espanola Valley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. As for Moriarty, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-11.

Espanola Valley will head out to take on Los Alamos at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Moriarty has already played their next contest, a 73-38 defeat against Portales on the 27th.
