Softball Recap: Newman Central Catholic Takes a Loss

After flying high against Mendota on Monday, Newman Central Catholic came back down to earth. The Comets came up short against the Sherrard Tigers on Friday, falling 16-6. The Comets haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Newman Central Catholic saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gianna Vance, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Vance has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. Another was Brenleigh Cook, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Newman Central Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Sherrard, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

Newman Central Catholic will look to defend their home field on Monday against Kewanee at 4:30 p.m. As for Sherrard, they will venture away from home to challenge Monmouth-Roseville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
