Preview: Silver Creek Dragons vs. Madison Cubs
Silver Creek is 10-0 against Madison since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Silver Creek Dragons will be playing at home against the Madison Cubs at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Silver Creek's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell to New Albany 72-67. While losing is never fun, Silver Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while New Albany is ranked 22nd).
Despite the defeat, Silver Creek saw an underclassman step up: Kasen Daeger scored 27 points. Daeger is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Brandon Hunter was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven assists.
Meanwhile, Madison's five-game losing streak came to an end on Saturday. Everything went their way against New Washington as Madison made off with a 62-40 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Madison has posted yet this season.
Madison's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mason Davis, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Davis pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Damon Harden, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Silver Creek has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season. As for Madison, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-9.
Everything went Silver Creek's way against Madison when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as Silver Creek made off with a 63-39 victory. Does Silver Creek have another victory up their sleeve, or will Madison turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
