Baseball Game Preview: Kent Denver Sun Devils vs. Colorado Academy Mustangs

For the second straight game, Kent Denver will face off against Colorado Academy. The Sun Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Kent Denver is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.

Monday just wasn't the day for Kent Denver's offense. They lost 8-0 to Colorado Academy on Monday. The Sun Devils haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

For Colorado Academy's part, Kieran Delaney made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Delaney has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jordan Reiter was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Liam Driver was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Colorado Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kent Denver only managed six hits.

The victory (which was Colorado Academy's sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Kent Denver, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Kent Denver has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Colorado Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
