Fair Grove came tearing into Wednesday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Springfield Catholic Fighting Irish 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since May 7, 2024.

Aubrie Voorhis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brooke Daniels, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Shayla Haddock, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Fair Grove's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Springfield Catholic, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fair Grove will venture away from home to take on Mt. Vernon at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 3.1, the Mountaineers 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Springfield Catholic, they will head out on the road to square off against Buffalo at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
