Baseball Game Preview: Santa Fe Chiefs vs. California Condors

The Santa Fe Chiefs will challenge the California Condors at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Santa Fe will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Santa Fe came out on top against La Habra on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Chiefs were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Highlanders. The game was the first time the Chiefs have beaten the Highlanders on their field since February 20, 2019.

Luke Garcia made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emilio Zavala, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Santa Fe is 2-1 when Zavala posts three or more RBI, but 8-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Mota, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one double.

Santa Fe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The home team had won the previous six meetings between California and La Serna, and La Serna kept the tradition alive. The Condors came up short against the Lancers on Friday, falling 11-2. The Condors' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Santa Fe's victory bumped their record up to 10-13. As for California, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.

Santa Fe got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March against California by a conclusive 7-0 score. Do the Chiefs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Condors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
