Preview: Southern Columbia Area Tigers vs. Mount Carmel RED TORNADOES
Southern Columbia Area is on a eight-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Mount Carmel is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Southern Columbia Area Tigers will take on the Mount Carmel RED TORNADOES at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Southern Columbia Area humbled North Penn-Mansfield with a 62-20 victory. Given Southern Columbia Area's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 64th, while North Penn-Mansfield is ranked 436th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Southern Columbia Area had a senior duo take command as Louden Murphy rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries and Garrett Garcia rushed for 72 yards and two touchdowns. Kyle Christman got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Mount Carmel walked away with it. They were the clear victor by a 43-21 margin over Wyalusing Valley.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mount Carmel to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cole Spears, who threw for 190 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Jacob Schultz, who picked up 139 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Southern Columbia Area to 10-1 and Mount Carmel to 9-2.
Southern Columbia Area came up short against Mount Carmel when the teams last played back in October, falling 42-30. Will Southern Columbia Area have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other football content.
