Preview: Belfry Pirates vs. Phelps Hornets

Belfry is 8-2 against Phelps since February of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Belfry Pirates will look to defend their home court against the Phelps Hornets at 7:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Belfry suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Thursday. They were beaten by Pikeville 77-35. Belfry was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 54-15.
Belfry's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Zade Rash, who scored 16 points, and Bryce Hagy who scored nine points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Hagy pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Meanwhile, Phelps pushed their score all the way to 56 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were outmatched by Betsy Layne at home and fell 93-56. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Phelps in their matchups with Betsy Layne: they've now lost seven in a row.
Belfry has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Phelps, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.
Everything came up roses for Belfry against Phelps when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 77-50 victory. Will Belfry repeat their success, or does Phelps have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
