Basketball Recap: Estes Park Picks Up Third Straight Win on the Road

Estes Park had won two straight road games and Phineas Smith did his part to make it three on Thursday. The Estes Park Bobcats were the clear victor by a 62-38 margin over the Clear Creek Golddiggers thanks in part to Smith, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 18 boards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game.

The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Powell, who posted 14 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. He is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played.

When it comes to explaining why Clear Creek lost, don't look at Zephyrus Schuessler. Despite the final result, he had 20 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. That was a full 52.6% of Clear Creek's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. Wyatt Huff was another key player, putting up four points and four steals.

The win got Estes Park back to even at 6-6. As for Clear Creek, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Estes Park will venture away from home to take on Flatirons Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Estes Park is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.2 points per game this season. As for Clear Creek, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 60-27 loss against Heritage Christian on the 24th.
