Baseball Recap: Easton Area Gets the Win

Easton Area's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Bethlehem Catholic Hawks. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rovers have posted since March 26th.

Zach Mattes looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Easton Area is 5-1 when Mattes allows two or fewer earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Khamryn Singto, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Mason Stout was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Easton Area pushed their record up to 10-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bethlehem Catholic, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

Easton Area will be playing at home against Phillipsburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bethlehem Catholic, they will venture away from home to take on Lansdale Catholic at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Crusaders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.92 runs per game on average), something the Hawks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
