Recap: Burns Broncs vs. Newcastle Dogies
The Burns Broncs were the 58-42 winner over the Newcastle Dogies when they last played one another back in February of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Burns received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 47-31 to Newcastle. Burns found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up seven fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the defeat, Burns saw an underclassman step up: Parker Ochsner scored 13 points along with four steals.
Newcastle's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Thatcher Troftgruben, who scored eight points along with six steals and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Pate Tavegie, who scored ten points.
Burns' loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Newcastle, their win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-0.
Burns has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Arvada at 5:30 p.m. on December 8th. Hopefully Arvada focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday. As for Newcastle, they will head out on the road to face off against Pine Bluffs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Wyoming (Pine Bluffs is ranked 37th, while Newcastle is ranked 40th).
