Basketball Recap: Smithville Comes Up Short

Smithville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat. They were dealt a 91-8 loss at the hands of the La Grange Leopards. The Tigers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-3.

Leading La Grange to victory were Brandon Mathis and Cordale Knapik. Mathis dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards, while Knapik went 7 of 10 en route to 16 points along with seven steals and five assists. The dominant performance gave Knapik a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Collier, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 15 points and five steals.

Smithville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-18. As for La Grange, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 18-8.

Smithville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 66-19 loss against Giddings on the 24th. La Grange has also already played their next game, a 68-41 win against Bellville on the 24th.
