Baseball Recap: Grand Junction Central's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Grand Junction Central came into Tuesday's game having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over the Eagle Valley Devils on Tuesday. With that win, the Warriors brought their scoring average up to 7.4 runs per game.

Grand Junction Central got a great performance from Tyler Chavez as he tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Chavez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Trevor Ziek was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Grand Junction Central is 2-1 when Ziek posts two or more runs, but 0-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ezekiel Sidanycz, who scored three runs and stole two bases.

Grand Junction Central's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Eagle Valley, they dropped their record down to 1-4 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Grand Junction Central will face off against Roaring Fork at 2:00 p.m. on April 3. As for Eagle Valley, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Weld Central at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Eagle Valley's pitchers better be ready for this one: Weld Central has averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
