The Cypress Creek Coyotes are taking a road trip to take on the Wesley Chapel Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cypress Creek's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Wesley Chapel's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Cypress Creek's offense. They lost 7-0 to Sunlake on Tuesday. The Coyotes have struggled against the Seahawks recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Cypress Creek got a good showing from Ethan Cook, who struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). What's more, Cook gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in February.
At the plate, Cypress Creek saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Grzanka, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Wesley Chapel got themselves on the board against Pasco on Tuesday, but Pasco never followed suit. They came out on top against the Pirates by a score of 3-0. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Pasco's batters probably weren't too happy with Aiden Nguyen, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 16 Ks (he gave up two walks). Nguyen also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Wesley Chapel is 4-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise.
Cypress Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Wesley Chapel, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cypress Creek has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wesley Chapel struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Cypress Creek suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Wesley Chapel in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Coyotes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
