Baseball Game Preview: Howell Rebels vs. Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs

The Howell Rebels will face off against the Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Howell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Howell barely beat Bridgewater-Raritan the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rebels blew past the Panthers 9-2 on Monday.

Phillip Christopher tossed a big game, tossing 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Howell let Vinny Agnello and Aaron Wojenski run wild. Agnello scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Wojenski scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Those three runs gave Agnello a new career-high. Ryan Todisco was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

Howell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Rumson-Fair Haven was able to grind out a solid victory over Shore Regional on Monday, taking the game 6-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.

Rumson-Fair Haven also got a great performance from Owen O'Toole as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched.

At the plate, Casper Billington was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Another player making a difference was DJ Ylagan, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

Howell now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Rumson-Fair Haven, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Howell skirted past Rumson-Fair Haven 3-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2022. Will the Rebels repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
