Preview: Monterey Wildcats vs. Midway Green Wave

The Monterey Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Midway Green Wave at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Monterey has now lost 11 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 15.

Monterey pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were the victim of a rough 80-57 loss at the hands of Jackson County. Monterey has struggled against Jackson County recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

The losing side was boosted by Aiden Roberson-Barber, who scored 28 points along with six rebounds and two steals. His trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Gustavo Galindez, who scored six points along with two steals.

Meanwhile, Midway's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on January 2nd after their third straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 61-48 loss to Oliver Springs.

Monterey dropped their record down to 2-19 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Midway, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Monterey was able to grind out a solid win over Midway when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 66-54. The rematch might be a little tougher for Monterey since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
