Basketball Recap: Wheatland Victorious

After losing to Rio Linda the last time they met, Wheatland decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Wheatland Pirates came out on top against the Rio Linda Knights by a score of 50-42 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pirates.

Dominic Shafer was the offensive standout of the match as he went 5 for 10 on his way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hughston Rodney, who posted five points and nine rebounds.

Wheatland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February.

The victory got Wheatland back to even at 6-6. As for Rio Linda, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.

Wheatland and Rio Linda could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Wheatland (ranked 1039th) will meet Gridley (ranked 264th) at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Meanwhile, Rio Linda (ranked 1204th) will meet Dixon (ranked 523rd) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
