Softball Game Preview: Homer Trojans vs. Western Panthers

The Homer Trojans will square off against the Western Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Homer will be strutting in after a win while Western will be coming in after a loss.

On Friday, Homer needed a bit of extra time to put away Jonesville. They had just enough and edged out the Comets 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trojans have posted since March 23rd.

Rihana Canfield spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Homer let Brooklen Minix and Lani Miller run wild. Minix went 3-for-6 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Miller got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Miller a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Mestdagh, who earned three runs and two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Western came up short against Tecumseh on Thursday, falling 13-3.

Homer has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Western, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
