Volleyball Game Preview: Valhalla Norsemen vs. Monte Vista Monarchs

The Valhalla Norsemen will head out to challenge the Monte Vista Monarchs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Valhalla is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest loss since March 11th on Tuesday. They lost 3-0 to El Capitan. Considering the last time the Norsemen couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

While Valhalla was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into El Capitan's winning margin in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-21, 25-23.

Meanwhile, Monte Vista hadn't done well against West Hills recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Monarchs walked away with a 3-1 win over the Wolf Pack. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Monte Vista had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 18-25, 28-26, 25-17, 25-22.

Valhalla moved to 8-10 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Monte Vista, they pushed their record up to 16-8 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Valhalla came up short against Monte Vista in their previous meeting back in March, falling 3-1. Can the Norsemen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
