Baseball Recap: Brooke's Run of Three Straight Wins Now Over

Brooke dropped their record down to 12-8 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Morgantown Mohigans. If the Bruins were looking for revenge after losing 10-0 to the Mohigans when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Brooke saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ty Sperringer, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Morgantown, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. That's two games straight that they have won by exactly four runs.

On Morgantown's side, Vincent Aloi made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). Aloi has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 11 games.

In other batting news, Mason Bowers was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Morgantown: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ryan Nipper, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Looking ahead, Brooke will take on Weir at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Morgantown, they will challenge Buckhannon-Upshur at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Buccaneers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
