Basketball Recap: Elm Creek Extends Home Winning Streak to 15

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elm Creek). They enjoyed a cozy 75-59 victory over the Axtell Wildcats on Thursday. The win was familiar territory for the Buffaloes who have now won three contests in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Elm Creek to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jeremiah Shoemaker, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 21 rebounds. Shoemaker has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times he's played. Quin Oberg was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds.

Elm Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Axtell's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cade Axtell, who went 5 for 11 en route to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Bergstrom, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten assists.

Elm Creek pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Axtell, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Elm Creek didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 42-38 win against Kenesaw on the 18th. Axtell has also already played their next contest, a 42-32 loss against Lawrence-Nelson on the 18th.
