Baseball Game Preview: Cate Rams vs. Santa Clara Saints

The Cate Rams will challenge the Santa Clara Saints at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cate is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.

Cate took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. Everything went their way against Dunn as Cate made off with a 9-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.

Peter Lehman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI. He has become a key player for Cate: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 1-2 otherwise.

In other batting news, Quinn Pullen was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Casbarro, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Santa Clara was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Santa Ynez.

Lucas Mendez was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Yandel Vargas, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Santa Clara's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Cate, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Everything went Cate's way against Santa Clara in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Cate made off with an 11-1 win. Will Cate repeat their success, or does Santa Clara has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
