Baseball Recap: St. James Gets the Win

Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Monday. St. James had just enough and edged out Waynesville 4-3.

JV Meurer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. He is becoming a predictor of St. James' success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 2-13 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Drake Plummer was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Jesse Hudson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

St. James' win bumped their record up to 4-14. As for Waynesville, they dropped their record down to 5-16 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. James will venture away from home to face off against Stoutland at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Stoutland's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so St. James' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Waynesville, they will head out to challenge Glendale at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
