Softball Recap: Dell Rapids Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against West Central, Dell Rapids was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They never let the Baltic Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Quarriers, who have now won three matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Katie Kvigne was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

In other batting news, Sylea Sykes was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Another player making a difference was Ella Johnson, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Dell Rapids always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Baltic only posted an OBP of .154.

Dell Rapids' victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Baltic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.

Looking ahead, Dell Rapids will face off against Vermillion at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Baltic has already played their next game (against St. Mary), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
