Basketball Recap: Mater Bay Academy Takes a Loss

On Thursday, the Mater Bay Academy Rays took a blow against the Miami Christian Victors, falling 75-22. While losing is never fun, the Rays can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 502nd, while the Victors are ranked 82nd).

Despite the defeat, Mater Bay Academy had strong showings from Victoria Josephs, who posted 12 points, and Gabriella Harris, who scored four points and five boards. That was a full 54.5% of Mater Bay Academy's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Mia Diaz also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Miami Christian had a senior duo take command as Evelyn Isaac dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds and Maria De Gracia dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Isaac has scored all season. Isabella Aversa was another key player, putting up eight points.

Mater Bay Academy now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Miami Christian, they pushed their record up to 11-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Mater Bay Academy has already played their next matchup, a 32-17 win against Archbishop Carroll on the 23rd. As for Miami Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 64-46 loss against Somerset Prep on the 21st.
