Softball Game Preview: Wahconah Regional Warriors vs. Frontier Regional Red Hawks

The Wahconah Regional Warriors will venture away from home to face off against the Frontier Regional Red Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Wahconah Regional has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Frontier Regional will arrive with four straight victories.

Drury hit Wahconah Regional with a five-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors fell 11-7 to the Blue Devils.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Frontier Regional ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They skirted past Greenfield 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Red Hawks have posted since April 9th.

Raine Wonsey spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Frontier Regional let Skyler Steele and Delaney 'Lu' Fifield run wild. Steele went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Fifield went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Liv Machon was another key player, going 1-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Frontier Regional's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Wahconah Regional, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

Wahconah Regional took their victory against Frontier Regional in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 13-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
