Softball Game Preview: Warden Cougars vs. DeSales Irish

The Warden Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the DeSales Irish at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Warden has given up an average of 10.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Warden came up short against Royal on Saturday, falling 17-5. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, DeSales came tearing into Monday's match with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Patriots as they made off with an 8-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Irish, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Abi Guest spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Theresa Holtzinger was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Roslyn Block, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

DeSales' victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Warden, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
