Softball Recap: Kankakee Valley Has No Trouble Against Hobart

Kankakee Valley gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on the Hobart Brickies with a sharp 11-4 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Kougars have posted against the Brickies since May 11, 2021.

Mallorie Rose was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Savannah Michalski, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-1. Another player making a difference was Danielle Gidley, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Kankakee Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hobart only posted an OBP of .357.

Kankakee Valley has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs this season. As for Hobart, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kankakee Valley will face off against Wheeler at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hobart, they will head out to face off against Portage at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
