Football Recap: Gabrielino Eagles vs. El Monte Lions
After flying high against Marshall last Friday, Gabrielino came back down to earth. The Eagles had to suffer through a 42-14 loss at the hands of the El Monte Lions. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-7.
When it comes to explaining why Gabrielino lost on Thursday, don't look at Marelle Moore Jr.. Despite the final result, he rushed for 82 yards and two scores, and also picked up 38 receiving yards. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 53 yards.
Leading El Monte to victory were Alex Aleman and Isaiah Standley. Aleman threw for 241 yards and three TDs on only 19 passes, while Standley rushed for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten carries. The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Gabrielino will head out to take on Trinity Classical Academy at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th.
