The Gretna East Griffins will be playing at home against the Skutt Catholic SkyHawks at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Gretna East knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Skutt Catholic likes a good challenge.
Gretna East is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They put the hurt on Standing Bear with a sharp 41-15 victory. The Griffins haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Chase Grow and Connor Sams were among the main playmakers for Gretna East as the former rushed for 96 yards and two TDs on only nine carries and the latter rushed for 169 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 15 carries. Those 96 rushing yards gave Grow a new career-high. Seth Kraegel was in the mix too, providing Gretna East with two scores.
Gretna East didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Standing Bear to a completion percentage of just 50%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from five players: Carson Hermann, Lucas Haverty, Cooper Westering, Brody Boone, and Jaxon Godfrey, who each logged one passes deflected. Gretna East has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.61 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.61 in their last three games.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Gretna East, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Kraegel, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Skutt Catholic won against Blair two weeks ago with 49 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The SkyHawks took their matchup with ease, bagging a 49-7 victory over Gering. With the SkyHawks ahead 35-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Gretna East better focus on containing Conor Mogensen and Brenden Ruth as the pair were huge in Skutt Catholic's win. Mogensen threw for 194 yards and two TDs, while Ruth gained 83 total yards and two touchdowns.
Gretna East's record is now 9-1. As for Skutt Catholic, their record now sits at 8-2.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Gretna East has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 258.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Skutt Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 177.2 rushing yards.
