Sprague and South Salem are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Olympians will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Saxons at 7:00 p.m. Sprague is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 26.6 points per game this season.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Sprague and North Salem had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Olympians strolled past the Vikings with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 21-7.
Isaac Tindall had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 145 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Giovanni Pierre-Mike, who rushed for 70 yards and one TD.
Sprague didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Gabe Flynn and Beck Olsen. Bohdi Jones was another major factor on D, picking up two sacks and making five total tackles.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Salem). They came out on top against Grants Pass by a score of 63-55 on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Saxons considering their 13-point performance the contest before.
Sprague better keep an eye on Kellen Bowman. He was instrumental in South Salem's win, throwing for 692 yards and five touchdowns. Those 692 passing yards gave Bowman a new career-high. Wongani Schlegel was Bowman's top target, picking up 163 receiving yards and one score.
Sprague's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for South Salem, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
The upcoming matchup will be a clash of competing strengths. Sprague has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 194 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, South Salem has preferred to attack from the air: they average 428.8 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
Everything came up roses for Sprague against South Salem in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 48-0 win. Do the Olympians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Saxons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
