Baseball Game Preview: Putnam Vo-Tech Beavers vs. Smith Vo-Tech Vikings

Putnam Vo-Tech is 0-10 against Smith Vo-Tech since May of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Beavers will square off against the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Putnam Vo-Tech has given up an average of 10 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Putnam Vo-Tech came up short against Gateway Regional on Monday, falling 11-5.

Meanwhile, Smith Vo-Tech strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Commerce a 15-0 shutout. Fans of the Vikings have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

James Lavallee made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Lavallee was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaleb Jorritsma, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Jorritsma is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Corey Krikendall, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Smith Vo-Tech's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average this season. As for Putnam Vo-Tech, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Putnam Vo-Tech couldn't quite get it done against Smith Vo-Tech in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 16-11. Can the Beavers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
