Softball Game Preview: LeRoy Panthers vs. Normal Community Ironmen

The LeRoy Panthers will take on the Normal Community Ironmen at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. LeRoy will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

On Friday, LeRoy made easy work of El Paso-Gridley and carried off a 19-2 victory. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 contests by seven runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Normal Community waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over the Maroons.

Avery Anderson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tatum Yokley, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Hayley Michels was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Normal Community kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Normal Community pushed their record up to 7-9 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for LeRoy, their victory bumped their record up to 21-2.
