Football Preview: Heritage Coyotes vs. Terrell Tigers
The Heritage Coyotes will be defending their home-field for the first timethey go up against the Terrell Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Heritage is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Greenville. Heritage's defense stepped up to hand Greenville a 26-0 shutout on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Coyotes as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Tatum Bell Jr went supernova for Heritage, picking up 187 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Bell Jr got the majority of those yards when he pulled down a pass and and took off for a gain of97 yards. Another player making a difference was Denzel Okekeuche, who rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.
Heritage was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 530 total yards. That's the most total yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
Heritage's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Sean French III and his two sacks. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up two sacks and making five total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Terrell was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Memorial 28-0 on the road. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 160th, while the Warriors are ranked 500th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brian White had a dynamite game for Terrell, rushing for 147 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Roderick Hambrick Jr., who rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown.
Heritage took their victory against Terrell in their previous matchup back in November of 2014 by a conclusive 43-20. In that matchup, Heritage amassed a halftime lead of 33-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
