Football Recap: South Pike Comes Up Short + How To Watch

South Pike lost against Columbia back in November of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Eagles fell 49-36 to the Wildcats. The Eagles were up 22-8 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Despite the loss, South Pike saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Douglas Wansley rushed for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Wansley also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Eagles are 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-4 otherwise. Antwaun Adams was another key player, picking up 96 receiving yards and one TD.

This is the second loss in a row for South Pike and nudges their season record down to 3-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 4-3 Poplarville (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 78.6% over those games). As for Columbia, the win keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. South Pike is set to challenge their familiar foe McComb at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Columbia will take on rival Poplarville at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
