Preview: Central Kitsap Cougars vs. Gig Harbor Tides
The Central Kitsap Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Gig Harbor Tides at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Central Kitsap is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Friday, Central Kitsap was able to grind out a solid victory over River Ridge, taking the game 20-10.
Meanwhile, Gig Harbor had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat North Thurston 46-2 at home. Given Gig Harbor's advantage in MaxPreps' Washington football rankings (they are ranked 46th, while North Thurston is ranked 189th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gig Harbor relied on the efforts of Ryland Geldermann, who gained 111 total yards and two touchdowns, and Benji Park, who threw for 236 yards and four touchdowns while completing 82.4% of his passes. Geldermann was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards.
Their wins bumped Central Kitsap to 2-5 and Gig Harbor to 6-1.
Central Kitsap was dealt a bruising 42-0 defeat at the hands of Gig Harbor in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Central Kitsap, Will Landram (who threw for 184 yards and two touchdowns while completing 76% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground) won't be suiting up this time.
