Softball Game Preview: David Crockett Pioneers vs. Daniel Boone Trailblazers

David Crockett is 2-8 against Daniel Boone since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Pioneers will venture away from home to challenge the Trailblazers at 4:30 p.m. David Crockett will be strutting in after a win while Daniel Boone will be coming in after a defeat.

Daniel Boone will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: David Crockett extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Pioneers beat Morristown-Hamblen East by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 13-2. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Lily Mango was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Mango was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, David Crockett got a big performance out of Julie Maupin, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Maupin has posted over her last five contests. Natalie Dunbar also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

David Crockett was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Morristown-Hamblen East only posted a batting average of .200.

Meanwhile, Daniel Boone came up short against Morristown-Hamblen West on Friday, falling 10-2. The Trailblazers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

David Crockett's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-3-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Daniel Boone, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.

David Crockett couldn't quite finish off Daniel Boone when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Pioneers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
