Softball Recap: Minford Falcons vs. Waverly Tigers
Minford had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 0-4-1 to make it eight. They lost 28-3 to the Waverly Tigers. If the Falcons were looking for revenge after losing 13-3 to the Tigers when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Waverly, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Waverly's part, Lexi Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Smith was also big at the plate, going 4-for-6 with three runs and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Ava Robertson was incredible, going 4-for-6 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Hayden Jones was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one double.
Coming up, Minford will square off against Portsmouth West at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Senators have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed eight runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Waverly, they will be playing at home against Miami Trace at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least ten runs in their last five matchups.
