Basketball Game Preview: Wildwood Wildcats vs. Gainesville Hurricanes

The Wildwood Wildcats will face off against the Gainesville Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Gainesville will be up against a hot Wildwood team: the squad just extended their winning streak to 17. Wildwood blew past Seven Rivers Christian 100-29 on Wednesday. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 11th, while the Warriors are ranked 246th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wildwood to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zoey Brown, who almost dropped a triple-double on 17 points, nine boards, and ten assists. That's the most rebounds Brown has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Trinidy Harris, who went 10 for 19 en route to 21 points in addition to seven assists and five steals.

Meanwhile, Gainesville hadn't done well against Columbia recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Gainesville blew past Columbia, posting a 69-37 victory. The Hurricanes' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Gainesville is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season. As for Wildwood, their win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-0.

Wildwood beat Gainesville 74-63 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wildwood since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
