Baseball Recap: 11 Straight Home Victories for Iona Prep

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Poly Prep Country Day, Iona Prep was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the St. Raymond Boys Ravens a 4-0 shutout. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Not much got past Shane Jelenevsky, who gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks to keep St. Raymond Boys off the board. Jelenevsky has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Iona Prep let Sean Concannon and Julian Guzman run wild. Concannon went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Guzman went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Guzman has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Dylan Merola, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.

Iona Prep pushed their record up to 20-4-1 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for St. Raymond Boys, their loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-6.

As of now, neither Iona Prep nor the Ravens have any future games scheduled.
