Softball Game Preview: Centennial Stars vs. Berne Union Rockets

The Centennial Stars are taking a road trip to challenge the Berne Union Rockets at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Centennial will be strutting in after a victory while Berne Union will be coming in after a defeat.

Centennial took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They blew past Whetstone 13-3. Considering the Stars have won 11 matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Ellie Glover made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Glover was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Ryann Hammond and Iris McConnell did most of the damage at the plate: Hammond went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI, while McConnell went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Camryn Haycook also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Berne Union came up short against Wellston on Tuesday, falling 14-4.

Berne Union saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cloe Hatzer, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Centennial is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Berne Union, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.
